On October 12, 2002, Gay Santa Barbara held its first Literary Salon. A standing-room only crowd in historic Casa De La Guerra heard five Southern California authors read from their work.

Gary Glickman of Los Angeles, known for his highly regarded novel, Years From Now, read new poetry, as did local Santa Barbara slam poet master and UCSB graduate student, Ted Burns. Local author Daniel M. Jaffe read from his novel, The Limits of Pleasure, which has been excerpted in Best Gay Erotica 2003. And Professor Suzanne Jill Levine of UCSB, author of the critically acclaimed biography, Manual Puig and the Spider Woman, read her translations of work by a range of Latin American authors. To finish up the event, queer superstar and literary pioneer Patricia Nell Warren, author of the blockbuster novel, The Front Runner, talked about her life in Spain and read from her newest novel, The Wild Man. After waves of rousing applause (!) the readings were followed by author signings and book sales (and this photo).
